Mr J.P. Harley as Touchstone, Act V Scene 1, in 'As You Like It' by Shakespeare, Giclee Print

Mr. J. P. Harley as Touchstone, Art V, Scene 1 in
'As You Like It'
by Shakespeare,
Giclee Print

Shakespeare's character Touchstone is the archetypal wise and comic fool, putting himself and everyone else (including the audience) to the test and guiding to a virtuous conclusion. The use of "touchstone" for the character's name is metaphorical use of the stone used to test for adulteration of valuable metals.
