The Marriage of Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro ossia la folle giornata) opera by Mozart is based on the stage comedy of Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais, the second of a trilogy that begins with The Barber of Seville (also transformed into an opera by Rossini).

In The Barber of Seville it is Figaro, the barber of Seville and former servant to Count Almaviva, who "negotiates" the marriage of the Count and Rosina under the nose of Dr. Bartolo who wished to wed her for her inheritance.

In The Marriage of Figaro, Figaro has become the Count's valet and is to wed Susanna, a lady in waiting to the Countess; the Count is lusting after Susanna, making the Countess very unhappy; this all leads to a comedy of identity crisis - wouldn't want to spoil it for you!!
