Christina Nilsson was a Swedish born opera soprano (and a friend of Sarah Bernhardt). It is believed that Gaston Leroux based the character Christine Daae in The Phantom of the Opera on the real-life Christina Nilsson. Nilsson debuted as Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata in 1864.
