Theodore Dreiser

Novelist and journalist Theodore Dreiser pioneered the naturalist school where literary situations that more closely resemble studies of nature. His characters, like Sister Carrie, are memorable for their persistance against all obstacles rather than their moral choices.
FYI - Theodore's older brother was songwriter Paul Dresser.

John Dryden was a poet and playwright who so influenced Restoration England that the period is known in “literary circles as the ‘Age of Dryden’”.
Dryden was a literary foe of playwright Thomas Shadwell.
