Edgar Guest, known as the “People's Poet”, wrote nearly 11,000 poems of a sentimental and optimist nature. He was made the Poet Laureate of Michigan and hosted a weekly radio show. His niece was author Judith Guest (Ordinary People).

Journalist John Gunther covered every country in Europe except Portugal between 1924-1936 but he is best remembered for his book Death Be Not Proud, the story of his son, Johnny, who died of a brain tumor at the age of 17.

Journalist, novelist, and historian Alfred Bertram Guthrie, Jr., who was raised in Montana, won the Pulitizer Prize for Fiction in 1950 for his The Way West. He also wrote the screen play for the western Shane.
