Murasaki Shikibu

Lady Murasaki, as she is often referred to in English, was a maid of honor of the imperial court during the Heian period. She is best remembered as the author of one of the earliest novels in human history, The Tale of Genji, which was written in Japanese between 1000 and 1008.
