The musical Mame is based on the 1955 novel Auntie Mame by Patrick Dennis and a 1956 Broadway play.

The story is of an eccentric woman, Mame Dennis, who has her bohemian lifestyle interrupted by her newly orphaned nephew joining her in New York City.

The musical Man of La Mancha is adapted from Dale Wasserman's non-musical 1959 play I, Don Quixote, that was inspired by Miguel de Cervantes's seventeenth century masterpiece Don Quixote. The musical, a play within a play, has Cervantes telling story of a “mad” knight, Don Quixote, as he and his fellow prisoners await a hearing with the Spanish Inquisition.

The musical Mary Poppins was first produced by the Disney company as a film starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke in 1964, then as a stage musical in 2004. The story is based on a series of children's books by P. L. Travers about an English nanny, Mary Poppins, who “pops-in” to take care of the Banks children.

Miss Saigon is the retelling of Giacomo Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly. The plot is relocated to the 1970s Saigon during the Vietnam War, and the romance is between an American GI and a Vietnamese bar girl.
