The opera Don Giovanni (1787) by composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is one of many operas based on the legend of Don Juan, and is considered one of the greatest pieces of music ever composed.

The first appearance of the legendary Don Juan in literature is in Spain c.1615. The notable versions of the story are Molina's and Moliere's dramatizations (1630 and 1665 respectively), and Lord Byron's 1821 epic poem.

The basic story is Don Juan seduces as many women as he can: Is he the cad and villian only for his own pleasure? Or does he have a gift of seeing beauty in every woman and can't resist the attraction?

In either case, Don Juan ends up in Hell as the complete title is Il dissoluto punito, ossia il Don Giovanni, translated to “The Rake Punish'd, or Don Giovanni”.
