Lilli Lehmann, considered one of the greatest Wagnerian singers of her day, sang at the first Bayreuth Festival (1876), singing in the first complete performances of The Ring Cycle as Woglinde and Helmwige.

She is also noted as a voice teacher: among her pupils were Geraldine Farrar and Olive Fremstad.

Lotte Lehmann was a soprano best remembered for her repertory of German work such as Richard Strauss' operas. She is a noted voice teacher, earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was a writer of poems, novels and a memoir. She also discovered the Trapp Family Singers who inspired The Sound of Music.
