Gustav Mahler
b. 7-7-1860; Bohemia
d. 5-18-1911
Late-Romantic period Austrian composer and conductor Gustav Mahler is one of the most frequently performed and recorded of all composers. Mahler is also noted for his intrepretation of Richard Wagner's work.
FYI - Mahler married Alma Schindler, an aspiring composer, in 1902, insisting that she drop her musical aspiration. This lead to her dissatisfaction with the marriage and several affairs (Walter Gropius, Oskar Kokoschka) that are portrayed in the 2001 movie Bride of the Wind.
