Kurt Weill, who escaped from Nazi Germany in the early 1930s, was a noted composer for stage and concert. Among his best remembered work are A Threepenny Opera with author Bertolt Brecht (melody Mack the Knife) and Knickerbocker Holiday (melody “September Song) with Maxwell Anderson. Weill was married to actress and singer Lotte Lenya.
