Piton de la Fournaise, French for “Peak of the Furnace”, is a shield volcano on the eastern side of Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean. It is one of the Earth's most active volcanoes. The rim of the volcano is unstable and beginning to collapse; there is evidence that this phenomenon is characteristic of Piton de la Fournase.

FYI - A piton is a metal spike used in mountain climbing.
