The Sultanate of Oman is located between Yeman and UAE on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula and adjacent to the Strait of Hormuz connecting the Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf (21 00 N, 57 00 E) - parts of the Indian Ocean, making Oman a center for traders. The capital and main port is Muscat. The economy of Oman is dominated by crude oil production and transportation.

Oman, slightly smaller than the state of Kansas, is mountainous in the north and south with a central plain. The interior climate is hot dry desert, the coastline is hot and humid. May through September Omani's experience strong summer monsoons in the southwest and suffer from periodic droughts and summer winds that often raise large sandstorms in the interior.

Oman is a monarchy, ruled by Sultan Qaboos who issued a royal decree guaranteeing basic civil liberties for Omani citizens based on English common law and Islamic law. Oman citizens over 21 are granted universal sufferage (except military and security forces).

Muscat, the capital and largest city in Oman, lies on the Arabian Sea along the Gulf of Oman near the Straits of Hormus. The Western Al Hajar Mountains separating the coastal plain from the high desert plateau, form the backdrop of Muscat.

There is evidence of human community back to the 6th millennium BCE.

Wadi is an Arabic term meaning valley, and generally mean a dry river bed.

At Wadi Shad there are at least seven pools of emerald green water.
