Casablanca, the largest city and seaport in Morocco, is located on the Atlantic Ocean. It was first settled by Berbers by the 7th century BC; both the Phoenicians and the Romans used it as a port.

The name Casablanca is from the Spanish words for “white house”. The original Berber name is Anfa and is used now to refer to the original old city.

Casablanca is the setting of the 1942 romantic drama film of the same name that starred Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.

Cayenne is the capital of French Guiana, an overseas region and department of France located in South America. The city stands on a former island at the mouth of the Cayenne River on the Atlantic coast. Cayenne is the place from where most of the geosynchronous satellites are launched.

FYI ~ The word ‘cayenne’ may be derived from the name given by Tipi Indians of northeastern South America for fruit of plants from the genus Capsicum, members of the nightshade family, Solanaceae. Columbus called them pepper because they reminded him of the “hot” taste of pepper, a valuable spice in Europe.
